Alexandra Ionis

Alexandra Ionis is increasingly taking the international opera and concert stages, with performances at the Bayreuth Festival, Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Les Arts Valencia and Semperoper Dresden. Her recent and forthcoming engagements in Italy include appearances at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari and Teatro alla Scala in Milan, among others.

Ionis has performed with leading orchestras including the Gürzenich Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. With the latter, she will soon be heard on a Deutsche Grammophon release of Gustav Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, conducted by Maestro Simone Young.

Her core repertoire encompasses Verdi, Wagner and Mahler, alongside a rich and diverse body of music from the 20th and 21st centuries. She has worked closely with contemporary composers including Aribert Reimann, Peter Eötvös, Michele Dall’Ongaro and Samuel Penderbayne.

Born in Moldova and raised in Berlin, Alexandra Ionis received her early musical education as a pianist, where her musical talent first emerged. Her artistic path soon led her from the piano to the voice. She pursued her vocal studies with distinguished artists and pedagogues, among them the renowned soprano Renata Scotto.

Today, Alexandra Ionis combines a strong foundation in the German and Italian operatic traditions with a particular commitment to the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, establishing herself as a versatile artist on both the international opera and concert stage.
